End of June Leaderboard Update

Here we are at the end of the first 6 months of the DD2013.  Nice that it ended on the day I do the update huh :-)  Here is some totals for you to think about.  So far as a group YTD we have ridden 21,457.42 and for June alone we rode 4,983.67 miles.
WOW almost 5,000 miles with 102 teams.  That is mind boggling!

Congrats to Team 51 Crazy Horse for leading the group this week!

June 23rd Leaderboard Update

We are almost at the half way point of the year and we have three Teams over 800 miles, two Teams over 600 miles, seven Teams over 500 miles, two teams over 400 miles, six Teams over 300 miles,  nineteen Teams over 200 miles, twenty one Teams over 100 miles, the rest are working their way up.  Did you notice that we don't have ANY teams in the 700 mile range?

I have pondered that and came up with.....nothing..... LOL....just an interesting fact for the first 1/2 of the year.  Happy trails to all and congrats to Team 22 for leading the herd!

Distance Derby Tee Shirts!

Hi, all.  While our host, Diane, is out doing her first LD ride in Kansas, I am sitting at my computer listening to the wind and the rain against the windows.  I don’t think it will stick around long.  It’s predicted to be hot and in the high 90’s today here in Nebraska.  We have our first cutting of hay rolled already and hoping to get more down later this week.  The rain is welcome.  I just got back from a trip to South Dakota with some friends, including Distance Derby competitor Kathy of Team 50 Zuni.  We had great weather and good rides.  I’ve been slowly getting blog updates done about our trip on Horsetrailriders.com

Diane and I very much want to commemorate the year with a new design of tee shirts and sweatshirts.  Admittedly, we both kind of dropped the ball on it just for lack of time.  But we are back on it again.  I am going to use the vendor that I used for our Expo shirts and know he will do a great job.  We will show you what it will look like before you order.  I hope to get my request sent to the designer this weekend and perhaps will have proofs back next week.  He is always curious about quantity, so it would be helpful if you would take the poll at the top of the right sidebar so I have an idea of the interest so I can help him project quantities.  Prices will probably be in the $15-$25 range, hoodies a bit more.  I’ll probably only do hoodies ten or more are interested.  They can get pricy.  You aren’t committing by doing the poll, but expressing a high interest.

bumper sticker

In the meantime, Distance Derby “competitor” bumper stickers are still available.  They are last year’s design but don’t show the year, so they will work for this year, too.  I have one on each of my trailers.  You can order them direct from Zazzle by following this link:  http://www.zazzle.com/distance_derby_bumper_stickers-128781451039360889.  They are a bit spendy but that’s what you get with print on demand.

I am excited to see the miles rolling in for the Distance Derby from such enthusiastic riders!   I get your posts in a feed and read them on my phone and wish I had time to comment on them all!  I sometimes have to go back to your bios because I find myself wondering “just where is that?”  You have all taken my on some beautiful virtual rides.

Pictures of riders having fun.

Just for fun, I thought I would post some pictures of some of the DD2013 riders out riding :-)  I know with the weather getting better there is lots of riding (I know, I have to   record all them miles!).  Hope everyone gets lots of miles and smiles during the bloom of June :-)

First one is of Tammy V out at Eagle Creek.
She and a bunch of DD riders had a wonderful time.

Here is a picture of a DD rider out at Big Canyon.
Best view is always between your horse's ears!

This the "No hands bridge" out at the Tevis ride in California.  Two of our teams went from NE to CA to do an educational ride to gather info and experience.

This is at the Rocking R Ranch CTR ride down in MO.
They almost got rained out!

Here is a picture of a group of DD riders at Mount Rushmore, SD.
 Looks like a great ride.

May 20th Leaderboard Update

This has been a very active month, there have been CTR's endurance rides, cattle drives, FBMD rides, birthday rides, wagon rides and just plain everyday fun rides.  So far for the month we have ridden collectively almost 3,000 miles and for the year to date over 15,000 miles.  Those ponies are earning their hay now (about time)!

As we all know the best way to view the world is between the ears of a horse :-)

FBMDR was a success!

Friday Before Mother's Day Ride......A wonderful ride that Tammy Vasa started many years ago was a wonderful success on Friday with about 60 riders and wonderful weather!  It started out a little cool but once the sun came out it was awesome.  The plum bushes smelled so wonderful and the green grass and blue sky made the day very colorful.

We rode from Valapraiso to Loma and back, all in all about 17 miles.  Loma was made famous as it was used in a movie staring Patrick Swayze back in the 90's.  Loma is the home to the Patrick Swayze movie, "To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything! Julie Newmar." on the side of the "hardware" building, you can still see the muriel that says "Welcome to Snyderville" which was the name of the fictional town.

After we had lunch in Loma we headed back to Valapraiso and had a wonderful pot luck meal together.  Thanks Tammy for a wonderful day full of great memories.

Hints

To those riding the Friday Before Mother’s Day Ride on Friday, here are some hits to finding a couple of the lucky horse shoes.  If you find one, claim at my trailer after the ride and tell me where (landmarks) you found it or take a picture of the coordinates on your GPS.
