Team 104 - Shawnee

My name is Keith Kibler.  My wife and I raise twhs and mfts on a small farm in extreme Southern IL. We endurance race them against the Arabians. Everything we do is GPS.

Shoot if you want real real proof, here is the video I made of the ride:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kPUIs6ramc

btw, I am on the aerc membership committee and write for both Trail Blazer magazine and Fosh magazine.
thank you

    1. Thanks Diane, it is a part of endurance training. In 100s, which I am getting this horse ready for her first, you have to ride into the night. So, it needs to be a part of the horses training.

  52. Well, sometimes you and your mount rule the trail and sometimes the trail wins. The 80 on Kate was a 100 mile ride. She got sore front feet and we were done. Bummer, but she comes first of course.
The 30 was a first time event for a 5 year old twh/std bred cross. She roared and was 3rd first event out.

Thank you for doing this contest thing. THis probably makes very little sense but my thought after getting pulled after 80 miles on Kate and realizing we paid the money, went through all the trouble and got no points whatsover or credit in my desire to prove her as a 10 year horse was, "well I do get credit in Distance Derby!"
    Thank you

  67. First, thank you again for your selflessly promoting riding in this endeavor. Secondly, if you ever have thought about going to the Shawnee National Forest check out my version of what you are doing on facebook, Shawnee National Forest on Horseback!
Thirdly, you are so right in that the key to communicating with your horse is time in the saddle. I have trained many horses and ride around 2000 miles a year. Well, often more actually. We keep around 10 horses and many nights find me still riding well after dark.
My main mare , a twh named Kate has many thousands of miles of training and is the first twh in history to win a 100 mile endurance race. The year of her first 100 I had a goal of 1000 miles on her and I rode 1000 miles exactly. The result is that I can call her and she catches me. She then kisses me and nuzzles me and will walk with me. I love the mare. Nothing beats time in the saddle.
