We live near Bedford IA and we raise mules and have a cow/calf herd on our 160 acre farm. Besides Sophie, I have 3 broodmares (with 2 babies due in February), the kid's 2 geldings, a yearling john mule a coming 2 yr old molly mule, and my newest addition a donkey (that I plan on breaking to ride this spring).
My favorite view is looking over the ears of my mule while riding. We've rode Shimek, Hacklebarney, Dixson Timber, Lake of 3 Fires and lots of other places in between. Our team name is "Lady Sophia".

Welcome, Jan. I haven't heard of Hacklebarney or Dixson Timber. Where are they located?
ReplyDeleteDixon Timber is near Carroll Iowa. Its a hilly, wooded area with electric hookups/water and an outhouse. Really good riding..
DeleteHacklebarney is near Villisa Iowa on HWY 34. It has water and good trails through woods and some ditches. Sophie and I enjoy riding both places, altho we get to Hacklebarney more often since its a lot closer. Let me know if you are headed to either trail, we'll try to meet you there.
2-3-13 Sophie & I made a 6.1 mile ride. We had to stay mostly on the road since the fields were slick on top and still froze underneath. I rode bareback and did quite a bit of trotting and some loping - good for the leg muscles.

Sophi & I logged 7.23 miles on Feb. 18. Good thing we rode that morning cause it turned colder and the wind picked up.
ReplyDeleteSaturday, March 23rd Sophie and I enjoyed a 4.41 mile ride, as we were riding I received a text that a new Copyright mule and been born so of course, I had to detour to meet the new arrival at Rafter CF Training & Mule Co., home of Chris & Kelli French and 1st Choice Colonel's Copyright. It was a windy ride and started snowing, but I thoroughly enjoyed my ride.
ReplyDeleteSunday, April 21st, we finally had a chance to ride again. It was a just an hour ride but we covered 2.69 miles.
ReplyDeleteIts been raining alot and even tho I am busy with my equine every day, I couldn't believe it had been a month since I have had a chance to get a ride in.
Saturday April 27th we rode 2.35 miles.
ReplyDeleteGood morning! I'd like to add another partner to my team. My donkey, Matilda. If thats possible to do, then we logged 3.16 miles last night. She is a very willing donkey and we are making good progress.
ReplyDeleteJan
Hi Jan, glad to see you logging miles with your donkey. Your miles are you and any equine of your choosing :-)
ReplyDeleteYeah! I got to ride some more AND remembered to log my miles. 6-14 we rode 4.17 and 6-15 we rode 2.31. We went to Farmington Iowa rode for close to 4 hours and I totally forgot to use my GPS. We did have an awesome ride tho!
ReplyDeleteThanks
Jan, Sophie and Matilda
Hate when that happens :-( I try to remember to put my GPS in my pocket before I saddle so it is there when I mount up :-)
ReplyDeleteI'll have to try to remember that! Super Moon -- we took advantage of it. We logged 3 miles under the full moon! It was a beautiful night to ride on June 22nd. The company was fantastic too!

ReplyDeleteWe were able to add a few more miles this week. They don't add up as fast if you are working in an arena. Ha Ha. Friday July 19th we rode 3.86 miles.
ReplyDeleteReally pays to keep track of my arena time. Rafter CF Mule Show & Trail Challenge is August 3rd & 4th so last night July 30th we spent a couple hours in the arena, logging a total of 8.16 miles.
ReplyDeletePlease add 5.68 miles for Sophie and I on Aug. 7th.

ReplyDeleteJan
Yup, looping those arenas the miles can add up :-)
